Concourse / public area seating

(71)

Concourse / public area seating is designed to provide a waiting area for relatively large numbers of people, in big spaces such as airports or shopping centres. Read More

Architects and interior designers often aim for an open, welcoming design and will consider how the layout and positioning of the seating units will affect the flow of people throughout a space.

Airport seating must accommodate several hundred people waiting at one time, and typically requires several long runs of seats, sometimes configured back-to-back. Throughout an airport, seating is required near food service and shopping areas, but the design must also allow people to gravitate towards commercial areas.

Seating for transport applications, such as bus and rail stations, is similar in principle to airport seating but will not be upholstered, with solid plastic or metal seats used for durability.

Reception area seating is covered in a separate section of this website.
