In addition to retail applications, the design and fit-out of hospitality interiors such as hotels, bars and restaurants has an important bearing on how they perform commercially. This also applies to the productivity or wellbeing of people in offices and public environments such as schools.

Fit-out can involve the specification and installation of all interior fittings and finishes, and could range from furniture procurement and space planning, to full-scale structural interior refurbishment.

A fit out contractor will co-ordinate the all of the elements as well as bringing together trades for aspects such as flooring or joinery installation and internal finishes such as painting and plastering.

The interior contractor may simply follow an architect or designer’s specification. Alternatively it may provide a design-and-build service that will involve more creative work on the interpretation and development of a client’s brief.
