Although reflecting an image is the primary purpose of a mirror, in interior decoration, they are rarely purely functional.
The frame materials, such as leather, suede or mosaic tiles can be integrated within a design scheme, or can provide a contrasting point of interest.
Large mirrors can be used to make a room appear larger, and big mirrors can also be used as a focal point or an artwork, such as in an entrance area or hallway.
The design of mirrors and mirror frames have varied throughout history, and a specific traditional style can be chosen to suit a period interior. The ornate carved and gilt styles from 18th and 19th Century Italy and France are very beautiful.
Selecting a striking contemporary mirror is often a way to make a statement piece, with many creative and unusual shapes available.
