Carpets are manufactured using a range of techniques.

Fibre-bonded carpet gives a flat velour or cord appearance and in most cases is anti-static, making it suitable for computer rooms. It provides a hardwearing surface for heavy contract use.

Woven carpets have either a loop pile or a cut pile.

Broadloom carpets are woven on a wide loom, meaning that it has no visible seams and can be fitted wall-to-wall in large rooms.

• Tufted carpets are produced by punching the pile yarn into a ready-formed woven fabric. These types of carpet are manufactured speedily by machine , or by hand , and are especially popular in the residential market .

Twist pile features strands of yarn twisted together, giving a high wool content that is durable. Loop pile carpet is made up of uncut loops, for texture and visual interest, and cut pile carpet is made up of cut loops, for a plusher, denser aesthetic.

Carpets are supplied in rolls and should be laid on top of an underlay . Carpet tiles can be fitted directly onto a laminate, vinyl, timber or concrete floor, and can be easily replaced should a single tile become damaged.
