VGL
VGL was the brainchild of Ted Ayerst, an apprentice letterpress compositor who, following a spell in marketing, became a production director for a print company. Seeing the potential of pre-spaced lettering for marking signs and vehicles, he set up Jadecal, the fore-runner of VGL in 1976.
The company built a reputation for innovation and technology, and in the early 1980s, introduced the UK’s first computer aided sign-cutting machine and then, in the 1990s, was at the forefront of digital print technology.
