Baines&
Baines&Fricker are a husband and wife design/art partnership based in Brighton, England.
Steve Baines commuted from Brighton to London for work since leaving school at seventeen. He always hoped that he would leave his office job to pursue his interests in design. He finally took the plunge in 2005 to undertake a City and Guilds furniture making course and embarked on a new career as a self employed furniture maker shortly after. Since then he has also worked on creating his own furniture designs, having his ‘Nutility’ range manufactured by Liquidesign and now launching under the Baines&Fricker name at 100% Futures. Influenced by early modernists through to post-war Utility furniture he used the Eames’ “learning through doing” approach to develop his ideas.
Eliza Fricker is an illustrator/screen printer. In the last few years she has taken part in the Brighton Festival and a number of zine/small press fairs. She is also taking part in an art fair in East London and has recently been accepted for the Islington Art and Design Fair. By taking elements of the simplicity and imperfections of early printing methods used in leaflets and books and combining with strong lines and saturated colour to explore ideas of the mundane and abstracting it.
