Standard insect mesh is made from woven fibreglass yarn, coated in PVC. It is available in a range of gauges from standard 18x16 to close weave 20x30 gauge.

Commercial insect mesh is made from woven polyester yarn, coated in PVC. It is thicker and tougher than standard mesh and is available in 17x12 gauge.

Aluminium and stainless steel meshes are also available.

Features

Insect mesh is normally available in either grey or black.
Roll width is normally 1200mm but some meshes are available in wider rolls.
Mesh can be bought by the metre, subject to a minimum quantity, or by the whole roll.
Cladding mesh rolls are 45 metres long and come in a variety of widths from 50mm to 300mm.

Benefits

Insect mesh allows natural ventilation and provides effective protection from flying insects.
In door and window screens insect mesh is unobtrusive – allowing light and fresh air into a room with minimal obstruction to the view.

Mesh is specified to keep insects out of the gap between external cladding and the main building structure, and from soffits and loft spaces.

Insect mesh is lightweight, flexible, can be cut with a knife or scissors and is easy to work with and to keep clean. It is non-combustible and will not rust, discolour or stain.

Fixing methods

• Door and window screens
In manufactured screens mesh is held in place with spline (rubber string) pushed in to a spline groove in the screen profile. For DIY screening solutions the mesh can be held in place with tacks or staples. Pressing the mesh onto a bead of silicone will also help secure it in place.

• Cladding
For cladding the mesh can be stapled in place. It can also be secured with a bead of silicone.
