Background

ISG plc approached Dröm UK (now KLAFS) to design and install a sauna and steam room that would combine to create a leisure suite in a family residence in the Surrey Hills. The client also met with Dröm's designers to personally select the materials and finishes herself.

Sauna

The walls and ceiling in the sauna are constructed from tongue and groove Aspen timber with luxury medium-heat treated Aspen used for the benches, skirting and surface of the lounger. The lounger has been gradually narrowed at the foot of the bench to fit the unusual shape of the room.

Mood lighting has been installed behind the contoured backrests and underneath the lounger and there is a slate feature wall behind the Tylö Expression 10 heater.

Resin bound pebble floor tiles complement the pebbles in the decorative floor outside the room, which was a design inspired by a similar feature the client saw in Dröm's showroom.

Steam room

The steam room has U-shaped seating with a backrest. The benches, walls, niche and ceiling are finished with a combination of dark and light blue glass mosaics. There is a chrome steam outlet with essence reservoir to enable the bather to add a fragrance of their choice to enhance their bathing experience.

The ceiling is fitted with a colour changing, fibre optic starry sky and LED lights are fitted to the underside of the benching. LED uplights are inset into the shelf area behind the benches. Large crystals can be placed over these lights to add a soothing atmosphere to the room.

Both rooms are finished with frameless glass doors (with the doors to the changing rooms being frosted glass) and are controlled with a touch screen, state of the art H1 control panel.
