City University was founded in 1894 as the Northampton Institute and became a university by royal charter in 1966. Its main campus is located in the Islington area of central London.
In its 50th birthday year, the University revealed strategic and ambitious plans, which included the expansion and update of its estate portfolio in just five years.
During this redevelopment, a new ground level entrance was opened at the main University building to provide a multi-purpose space and increase the university entrance capacity.
Ferco seating was selected to refurbish the lecture theatres in the University Building and build a new 240-seat lecture theatre directly accessible from the main entrance.
The main phase of work was preceded by various relocations within the site, beginning in January.
Works involved the remodelling, refurbishment and extension of the ground floor and level 1 of the University Building, and the introduction of a new lecture theatre in place of the existing Graduate Learning Centre.
Room B200, as the new lecture theatre is known, was opened on 7th November 2016. The room is centrally managed and contains a fixed seating capacity of 240.
ARC One seats with fixed writing ledges were the chosen seat type. The floor-mounted seat was the ideal choice as it is suitable for fitting in curved room layouts. In addition, the ergonomically shaped seat provides lumbar support and ensures correct posture.
