The SSE Hydro is the biggest performance arena ever designed by Foster + Partners. The dramatic structure takes the form of a skewed dome, spanning 120 metres, with external walls clad in translucent air-filled ETFE cushions that can create a dazzling illuminated facade.

Lang+Fulton has supplied decorative wall cladding for the stage entrance constructed from its STEREO-KINETIC® Wall system. Each stainless steel sheet is engraved with the name of an artist, commemorating their performance.

The STEREO-KINETIC® Wall has been developed by Lang+Fulton using a panel of steel grating, which is fabricated and framed to a custom size, from which the stainless steel sheets are suspended.

Previously the system has been supplied as an external wall cladding for car parks, public buildings and retail premises and the project at the SSE Hydro was the first occasion when it was used for internal decoration. The result was a stunning and imaginative method of covering the drab concrete wall which greets the high-profile performers who appear at the arena.

When the SSE Hydro first opened in 2013 Lang+Fulton supplied the Roma-3 grating fence which secures the perimeter of the complex and storage compounds as well as a Micro-15 balustrade for the elevated walkway which connects the car parking facilities with the venue.
