Requirement

The spa experience is an essential offering for luxury hotels and the Novotel London Canary Wharf Hotel commissioned London Swimming Pool Company (LSPC) to complete this sumptuous pool and a saunarium (sauna and steam room in one).

Work undertaken

Built on the ground floor rather than the basement, to create an airy ambience, the rectangular concrete pool shell had already been formed by the main contractor. LSPC then completed all other aspects of the pool including the tiling and the plant room. This involved devising ingenious pipework that was run from the pool shell into the plant room without disrupting the previously constructed shell.

The contemporary level-deck pool is 10m long x 5m wide x 1.5m deep and finished in aqua blue porcelain tiles. It has a bespoke stainless steel handrail and a counter current unit which allows bathers to swim against ‘the tide’ providing exhilarating exercise. The pool’s feature wall incorporates two waterfalls that cascade water into the pool.

The pool surround (supplied by the main contractor) is made of 150 x 150mm porcelain tiles that resemble natural wood.

The pool hall features cool grey / white walls, ceiling and colonnades, leaf motif design along two walls, plus an eye-catching light display on the wall at the end of the pool and on the ceiling. These cast strips of light on the pool water and complement the Eva Optic underwater pool lighting.
