At Ecobuild 2012, Twyford Bathrooms showcased ideas and solutions to help reduce water consumption. Rimfree® technology has set new standards of hygiene and water conservation. Twyford exhibited 3 Rimfree® designs (Moda, 3D and Galerie) alongside their antecedent, Sola Rimless at the show. New T4 shower enclosures were also unveiled, as well as the Odourwise™ Waterless urinals (Centaurus and Galerie Plan) and electronic urinal (Galerie Plan).

Rimfree® marked a milestone in product design and innovation at Twyford. This revolutionary technology is a notable landmark in the evolution of sanitaryware since Thomas Twyford invented the Unitas in 1883; the first one-piece, all ceramic, freestanding wash out toilet.

In 2007, Twyford launched its first rimless back-to-wall toilet, Sola, having spent the previous 3 years to design and develop this original concept. Since 2007, Twyford’s R&D Unit had modified it and introduced other rimless designs for healthcare and education sectors.

Following the success of Sola Rimless, Twyford conducted research to design, develop and trial the Rimfree® toilet (domestic). At the end of 2010, Twyford registered “Rimfree” as a trademark; and in Sept 2011, the UK’s first rimless and domestic toilet, Moda Rimfree® was launched. In Nov 2011, Twyford took Rimfree® unveiled 2 new Rimfree® wall hung designs, 3D and Galerie.

Rimfree® - with a uniquely engineered water distribution system - removes all waste as effectively as a traditional toilet. Self-draining jets at the back of the bowl release water that flows round the inside of the pan; with no hidden rim, there is nowhere for germs to hide, making the toilet bowl easier to clean. As a result, there are less water and chemical detergents required for cleaning, making it water saving and more environmentally friendly.

Ecobuild 2012 saw the launch of the new shower enclosures, T4. They are fitted with a polished silver frame and 4mm clear glass throughout. Enclosures allow reversible openings, while doors can swing back for easy cleaning.

Also on show were Odourwise™ Waterless urinals:

Centaurus is the first hybrid urinal that is truly waterless, combining maximum water savings with enhanced hygiene. The cutting-edge Odourwise™ Waterless technology requires neither chemicals nor electricity. The urinal is entirely rimless, making it easy to clean.

Also installed with the Odourwise™ Waterless system, Galerie Plan offers the same cost-effective and eco-friendly benefits as Centaurus. With its completely closed sides, Galerie Plan is easy to care for and with no concealed rim requires minimum maintenance.

In addition to the Odourwise™ Waterless model, Galerie Plan comes with the option of an electronic timed flush, “Flushcontrol 1000”. The flush sensor is built into the trap which attaches to the outlet of the urinal. It works as a temperature sensor that identifies the change in temperature when urine passes through the trap. Once the sensor detects the temperature change, it will trigger the urinal to flush automatically after 30 seconds, allowing sufficient time for the user to move away from the immediate vicinity before all waste is flushed away. As the sensor is built-in, all of the workings are hidden behind the urinal, and thus there is no need to mount an extra sensor in the wall/panel. What’s more, Flushcontrol 1000 comes with an overflow protection and operates with a water-saving 1/0.5L dual flush.
