Supplied in formats such as foils, boards, sheets and panels, the surfacing is available in any number of colours and finishes. Plain surfaces can have matt or high-gloss sheens, whilst patterned and textured surfaces can be used to create contrasting feature walls.

Commonly used materials include high-pressure and solid-grade laminates, MDF, melamine-faced particleboard, quartz composite and linoleum.

The surfaces can also have properties other than the purely decorative, with enhanced resistance to scratches, bacteria, chemicals, mould or heat.

Other decorative finishes for interior surfaces are found in separate sections on this site. These include interior wall cladding , ceramic floor and wall tiles , stone floor and wall tiles and mosaics .
