Entrance matting and carpet tiles from Construction Specialties have been used in the refurbishment of entranceways at The National Gallery in London.

Requirement

Renowned across the globe for its collection of artworks, the Gallery is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the UK with 15,500 visitors every day. With such a high footfall, entrance matting has a significant role to play in reducing slip hazards whilst enhancing aesthetics and helping to keep maintenance costs in check.

Solution

As part of the refurbishment of the entrance ways at the Portico Entrance, the Pigott Education Entrance and the Getty Entrance, the gallery’s facility managers decided to replace the existing Pedimat® matting which had come to the end of its lifespan. Having previously specified entrance matting from CS, the gallery was happy to use the tried-and-tested system again due to its aesthetics, ease of cleaning and maintenance, and high dirt and moisture removal performance.

Pedimat entrance mats

Seven Pedimat® entrance mats totalling over 37m2 were installed in these main entrance areas. The system comprises 11mm-deep clear anodised aluminium rails, hinged with vinyl splines and is available in a choice of tread and colour options to meet the project’s aesthetic and performance requirements. Interior-grade carpet inserts in a mid-grey colour were selected to complement the surrounding floor finish.

Tetras carpet tiles

In addition, Tetras® Clean-off Carpet Tiles in Obsidian were specified for the East Wing Café entrance to ensure effective dirt and moisture removal.  Measuring 500 x 500mm and 10mm-thick, these heavy contract carpet tiles are very hard-wearing, absorbent and easy to clean.

Outcome

The installation of CS Pedisystems products will ensure a safer interior and reduced cleaning costs throughout this high footfall tourist attraction.
