Overview

Construction Specialties supplied a range of expansion joint covers and entrance matting for a sports venue for one of the Premier League's leading teams. Located in north London, a 62,000-seat multipurpose facility featuring the world's first dividing, retractable football pitch. Also designed to host American football, concerts and other high-profile events, the £1bn stadium officially opened in April 2019, built on the site of the club's former ground.

Products & Scope

C-S Group systems were specified across the venue, each addressing different performance requirements:

For the three entrances within the stadium's ticket office, CS Pedimat Ultra entrance matting was selected. With its 11mm slim-depth profile and a rolling load capability of 275kg per wheel, the system fits flush alongside floor tiles within a matwell. A total of 31m² of Pedimat Ultra, featuring dark grey 'Platinum' exterior-grade carpet inserts, was installed to manage dirt and moisture removal at high-footfall entry points.

CS Pedigrid was specified for the stadium's VIP entrance atriums, media café and experience centre. The 44mm-deep recessed system features removable aluminium grille sections that allow water, dirt and snow to fall through heel-proof treads into a drainable matwell below, reducing cleaning and maintenance frequency.

A total of 450 metres of APF movement joint covers were installed throughout the stadium concourse. In areas where moisture ingress was a particular concern, CS Moisture Barriers were fitted beneath the covers.

Outcome

C-S Group systems were successfully integrated across public, VIP and concourse areas of the stadium, addressing varied performance requirements - from high-volume pedestrian entrances to moisture-sensitive structural joints.
